ACDRA does not propose to know the
parentage of mixes and, by this statement, informs potential
adopters that we cannot and do not assure that the parentage of ACD-mixes include cattledog. Potential adopters are advised that
the most appropriate approach to selecting a companion is to
objectively evaluate their own situation and needs and to match
that with the personality and behavior of the adoptee, regardless
of parentage.
The dogs listed here have not been evaluated by ACDRA, therefore we
cannot vouch personally for them. We are offering these listings as a courtesy
to help these dogs find homes and inquiries should be directed to those listed
with each dog.
ACDRA gives shelter dogs priority for open foster homes. If you would like to find
out about any of these dogs to see if you can help them out, please
look at the Shelter Dogs Needing Help page.
If you have a dog that you would like to have listed here for placement,
please contact our placement contact for
details. You can also visit our FAQ page for information on what is required to list
a dog for placement on our site. If you are considering listing your dog because of a
behavior problem - please check our
HelpfulTraining Tips on our FAQs page... you
may just find a solution to keeping your loving pet in your home with you. If you don't
see your problem listed let us know and we can try to get a tip up for that problem as well.
The following is a listing of individual/owner give-ups; these dogs also need a loving home:
Max is a 2 year-old Australian Cattle dog, pure bred (no papers) fixed. Max is very active and very obedient. I did basic
obedience training on lead and off lead training. Max will sit, down, stay, wait, with voice and hand commands and he will wait until
released. He is very smart. The obedience class trainer and vet both told me Max is not the typical cattle dog, he is not aggressive
like most of them are. I have had him around other dogs since he was 9 weeks old and he gets along well with other dogs at the dog
park. If there is a dog fight at the dog park I will call Max and he comes right to me. Max gets along with other people and children
when he sees them at the dog park. Max does not live with children, so I do not know how he would respond living with them. I take him
for hikes and mountain biking in the fall and spring when it’s not hot. I take him swimming too When Max is on lead and sees
another dog (especially when the other dog is off lead) when we are walking he starts barking and acts aggressive — he
wants to let the other person and dog know that he is protecting me. Therefore, I do not let him get near the other dog and I require
that person to put their dog on lead. Max is crate trained and house broken. I realize Max is bred to be a working
dog — he does much better off lead. I will be getting married to a man who is in the Air Force, I will be moving to
Ohio and traveling with him as his job requires extensive travel (the type of work he is in prevents us from taking a dog along),
therefore I am unable to keep Max and I do not want to shove him in a kennel all the time. I’ve been putting a lot of thought
into what’s best for Max. He needs to be in a home where he gets a lot of attention and can be kept busy and active. I have
spent a lot of time and money training Max and working with him. I want to see the home he is going to be placed in because he has
been a big part of my life and I want the best for Max. Max needs a home that meets his needs that he is bred for. I don’t want
to be selfish and I know he will adapt well to his forever home. For more information please contact Michelle Rudy at 717-697-4475 or

Praline is a Southern nut! Happy and playful, this beautiful girl was thrown away in our neighborhood about 2 months ago.
After many days alone on the road, she found us and she’s been in our home with our beagles ever since.
Praline is 8 months old, weighs about 40 pounds, is spayed and is up-to-date on all vaccinations and heartworm preventative.
She enjoys outdoor
time as much as couch-potato indoor time. She is easy to care for, strong and gentle; we truly enjoy her very much. Our beagles,
on the other hand, merely tolerate her: this is the only reason we are listing her here.
We live in Rock Hill, SC, about 25 miles south of Charlotte, NC. Please direct all inquiries to:

Mac is an eleven month-old male Australian Cattle Dog. He is very sweet and playful. He has lots of energy and is very vocal and smart:
he figured out how to move sofa to get a toy he dropped! He knows basic commands like sit and down, walks well on leash, and likes
playing fetch and tug. He gets along with other dogs and cats, but is having a problem with our resident older female Lab. She is not
doing well with such an active dog. Mac is very good with people, and will go to greet new people right away. He is current on all
vaccinations. Mac is located on Long Island, NY. If interested, please contact Neil at
castor@verizon.net or call (516) 731-3220.

Braxton is a 4 year-old Australian Cattle dog that we adopted
from a local rescue organization at around 7 months old. He is neutered,
crate-trained, and knows basic commands. He is a typical cattle dog in
that he is very high energy and very intelligent, so he needs a lot of
physical and mental stimulation. He does well with cats, but will
occasionally chase them. He is great with kids and our newborn baby, but
will jump up if not corrected. He does, however, have male aggression and
stranger anxiety. He is very protective of his home and his owners. He
also has separation anxiety which has been managed with medication in the
past, and with crating while we are away. He is a very lovable, goofy dog,
and will be a great companion to someone with the time to give him the
structure and stimulation that he needs, which unfortunately, we cannot
give him right now. If you are interested in Braxton, please contact
Jessica Beamesderfer in Lemoyne, PA at 717-514-2107.

My husband and I acquired Holly 2 years ago from my in-laws because my
mother-in-law was allergic to her. Holly is a sweet dog, and has lived well
with my husband, me and our other 2 dogs (a lab and a lab-mix). We are
concerned about keeping her though, because my husband and I are expecting
our 1st baby in August, and we don’t trust Holly with a baby or young child.
Holly is a very friendly dog, but it is clear when she needs her own
space. In an adult-only household, it is easy to honor her space. We would
feel better placing her in a good, loving home where we would not have to
worry about a small child with her, rather than keeping her in a home where
she would have to be separated or live with the risk of a potential incident
occurring.
Holly is 8 years old, and would do great in an adult-only household. She
has lived well with other dogs (she likes to herd them and keep them in
line). She gets along with some cats, but does find them intriguing and
likes to “check them out”. Holly has a white
marking on her forehead and brown around the ears. She has a grey torso
with a few large black spots.
Please see the attached pictures of her.

Ruby is a beautiful girl who needs a new home because her owner is being
relocated for his job. She is housebroken and crate-trained and knows how
to sit, lay down, give paw, speak and dance. Ruby is approximately 5 years old and
was adopted from a humane society in Arizona after they found her wandering
a parking lot. She has turned out to be a wonderful dog and is full of
energy. She weighs about 45 lbs and she is up-to-date on her rabies and
distemper shots and is in good health. She tends to want to be dominate
when she first meets other dogs but after a brief introduction she’s ready
to play. She has some food guarding issues with my other dog but not
towards any people she’s been around. She is in a multiple dog (and cat)
home now and does just fine. She also gets along with any cats she’s been
around so far. She has not had any exposure to young children so I’m not
sure how she would do around them. Ruby is currently at a home near the
Pittsburgh, PA area and needs a new home soon: can you help her? She’s
ready to share her love with a new family. All I ask is that she is in a
home that can give her sufficient exercise as cattle dogs are a
super-energetic breed. Please contact me below now if you are able to give
her a loving home!

The current owners would LOVE to see these 2 sisters be able to stay together but are willing to adopt
them out separately. They are very much loved and are being re-homed because of the owners’ current
health issues. They are located in the Lancaster, PA area. Interested parties should contact Michelle
Proctor at shellpro@aol.com for more information.
Maggie (black ring around her belly) was born 5/9/06 and is 8 months old. She is up-to-date with all
her shots, was spayed on 10/31/06 and is crate trained and mostly house trained (has had a couple of
accidents). She has had some obedience training and is good with obeying commands and walking on a
leash. Being a young dog, additional obedience training would be beneficial. She is a very sweet and
playful pup, is good with small children and other dogs (not sure about cats). She also likes to cuddle
and loves to run and play with her sister Callie.
Callie was also born on 5/9/06 and is 8 months old. She is up-to-date on all her shots, was spayed on
10/31/06 and is crate trained and mostly house trained (has had a couple of accidents). She is a bit more
stubborn than her sister — she has also had some obedience training but with a mind of her
own, Callie would benefit from additional training. She is also good with small children and other dogs,
but again, has not been tried around cats. She loves to play with toys and is not as much of a cuddler as
Maggie but she is still a sweet and affectionate girl. She also loves to run and play with
her sister Maggie.

Zeena is a sweet, very friendly 10-month old blue ACD. She was relinquished
to us because the previous owners didn’t understand the cattle dog drive and
herding instinct. We are not having any problems with Zeena. She needs a
lot of obedience work (e.g., sit, down, stay, long downs, leash work, esp.
recalls) but her house manners are good. She gets along well with other
house dogs, after an initial introduction (she is fearful). She is good
with cats that don’t run away from her.
We walked her on a long line with sheep today and she is very keen. We will
try her later this week or next week in a pen and see if she has potential.
At her previous home she harrassed horses and killed a
chicken. She is not really interested in the horses when the sheep are
around. With appropriate containment and activities that channel her drives
this should not be a problem. We are working on crate
training and she is doing well.
Zeena is eager to please and is submissive to humans. To date, she has
not had much exposure to children. She has submissive urination that we are
currently ignoring. Zeena is spayed and up-to-date on all her shots. She about 30 muscular pounds.
When she was a puppy she broke her leg and the growth plate in the opposite
leg was damaged due to the weight it had to bear and, therefore, she has a
problem with her stifle. We don’t know what the future will hold for this
leg, however, she gets around well on 3 legs and does not appear to be in
any discomfort.
Zeena is located in Vernon, NY. If you are seriously interested in Zeena
contact Lori at morningstarfarmny@yahoo.com.

Raji is a 4 year-old, 40-pound neutered male Australian cattle dog/Lab mix in need of a home due
to owner's health. He is okay with cats and kids over the age of 10. He is housetrained, crate-trained
and has had basic obedience training. He walks well on a leash, likes car rides, loves the outdoors and
people. Raji does have a few minor issues though. He does not get along with other dogs and would
therefor need to be placed in a single dog household, he has some mild separation anxiety and wants to
be with his people and he needs a job to do or he gets bored and chews his legs resulting in hot spots.
If you are interested in Raji or would like additional information, please contact Ellen at 585-414-8039.

Sweet Pea is a Cattle Dog - Pointer mix. She is approx. 13 months old. She
is a sweet and gentle dog. I rescued her in June 2005 from a kill shelter
where I feel she was badly abused. She is a real skittish dog. Any loud
noise, movement, etc scares her. She is house trained. If you offer her a
treat she knows to "sit" and to "give you high five". Other than that she
does not respond to any command. She needs to be the only pet only because
she is easily dominated by other animals (no matter their size). She loves
people and she loves kids. She would be great in a home with children. In
the house she is a very quiet dog. Once out in the yard (which is all fenced
in) she loves to bark (a lot of times at nothing). She is spayed and has had
her shots. I can be reached at 860-698-6242 after 5:30pm (EST) or via email at
ctracy0014@aol.com.

Lady is approx 16 mths old. I rescued her in June 2005 from a dog kennel
which we feel her previous owners had abused her. Lady is house trained and
will listen (80%of the time) in the house. Once I let her run in the yard
(which is all fenced in) she totally ignores me and any command. Even
getting her to come in the house she will not obey but will come in only
when she is ready. She has escaped out of the fence a few times. The first
time I tried to catch her which did not work, it only made her run further.
So, if she gets out I open the gate and go in the house. When she is ready
she will wander back in the yard on her own. Lady needs a good home as the
only pet in which her new owners would have the time to spend with her and
train her. When bored she will get into things. She is a very dominant dog
with other animals. She loves kids but does play rough and nip (as Cattle
Dogs do) if they run in the yard. I love her dearly but I do not have the
time it would take to train her outside. I have worked with her a lot and
she is doing very well compared to when I first got her. She will bark at
strangers but will not approach them. It really is hard for me to offer her
to another home but she does need more attention than I can give her. She is
spayed (was when I got her) and has had her shots. She is a reddish color
with black markings (brindle colored). I need an excellent, loving home for
her. I can be reached at 860-698-6242 after 5:30pm (EST) Monday through
Friday and any time on weekends or by email at ctracy0014@aol.com.

“Tilly” is a female "blue heeler" Australian Cattle Dog,
is approximately 4 years old, weighs 38
lbs, and has a docked tail. Turned in as a pregnant stray to a rural kill shelter in
Ohio, Tilly is now living as a house dog in the Pittsburgh, PA area. Tilly
has been wormed, spayed, UTD on all innocs, and is now heartworm free. She
is now also house-trained, crate-trained, walks well on lead, good in a fence
outside, honors puppy gates inside, loves all people large and small, is
good with cats, but is intolerant of many dogs (I am still working on this).
Tilly has gone through several group dog training classes, including clicker
training, is highly food motivated, and absolutely loves the one on one
attention. Tilly shows little interest in balls, but loves rawhides, bones
and stuffed Kongs. Her only interest in soft toys is to eat them, and as
such, she is best in a kitchen area or crated when unsupervised where she
cannot get access to sofa throws and throw rugs. Tilly is a very low energy
dog and does not require a lot of exercise to keep her happy. Although, she
does enjoy playing with my nonconfrontational female Irish terrier, and
ignores my very tolerant male cattle dog, she would probably do best as an
only dog, with few exceptions. Tilly is presently in a private home.

Willie was adopted from a shelter in the summer of 2001,
when he was about 9 months old. He has gray coloring with some
white, black and brown, and currently weighs about 55 lbs. He
is fully house-trained. He has had some obedience training,
knows the basic commands: sit, off, settle, stay, but frequently
gets so excited that he doesn't follow them. He loves to eat,
and will eat anything and everything. He loves dog treats and
begs remorselessly. He loves to play. He will fetch and catch
anything you throw. He especially likes soft Frisbee toys. When
he brings the toy back he likes to play tug-of-war, or keep
away, and when he tires of playing, he will just sit and chew up
the toy. He is a very energetic dog. He selects one person as
his, and tries to spend time with that person, following him or
her around. He doesn't like to be outside without people unless
there is a deer or some other animal to bark at. He loves
walks, but will try to chase any squirrel, deer, rabbit or cat
that he sees. He is very strong so it takes a strong person to
control him. He loves people, and wants to visit everyone he
sees on his walk. He has been good with most kids we see on our
walk, though he does try to jump up on them and can knock the
smaller ones over. He doesn't like joggers who pass by without
stopping.
We were warned that he might not get along with the other dog in
our household, but had no trouble with him for about the first
year. After that, he decided to become the alpha dog, and our
troubles began. Even though our other dog, a beagle, has
accepted him as alpha dog, Willie continues to bully him. Even
worse he has attacked him, and there have been trips to the vet
because of cuts and puncture wounds. I have had to forcibly
separate the dogs and am concerned with what would happen if
they start a fight and I am not there. We consulted a dog
behaviorist, but have not had much success in modifying his
behavior. His attacks on our beagle are sporadic, and we are
not certain what sets him off. Willie doesn't get along with my
cats, either, although I have seen him get along with cats that
are laid-back and don't run away from him. He seems to also get
along with dogs that are very mellow. When on walks he is fine
with dogs that are smaller than him, but with dogs !
his size or bigger (unless they are very mellow), he barks and
sometimes tries to attack. Willie has a fun and loving
personality, although he is a handful. I will miss him, but
feel in the interests of protecting my other dog and making life
easier for my cats, that I must find him another home.

Hello...my name is Molly. The vet thinks I am a mix of
Border Collie/Australian Cattle Dog and about 8 months old. I am
spayed, up to date on all my shots, micro chipped , and in overall
good health. My personality is such that I want and need to work.
About one month ago, a very nice lady rescued me from a backyard
where I was abandoned chained to a short leash. I get along well
with other cats, dogs, children and adults. My foster family has
lots of cats on their property and I enjoy playing with them. When
its time to stop playing, I begin herding all the cats into the
big barn where they stay. I don't hurt them...I just help them get
to where they need to go. I really enjoy being outdoors and
whenever I'm brought indoors, I howl and bark until I am let out.
I live in a big pen complete with a dog house, a play area, plenty
of toys and lots of fresh water and food. The reason I am kept in
a pen is because there is too much traffic and my foster mom is
afraid I will be struck by a car. I need to live in a place with a
lot of space for me to be able to run. I am not a dog who likes to
just sleep, eat and get petted. If you want a worker...I'm the
girl for you. My foster mom says that I am "a very low maintenance
dog". If you would like to learn more about me or meet me, please
contact Shari on 845.364.0797.
